It was founded in April 1853 and has since then been serving the country with its resourceful system.

The railways go across the length and breadth of the country, covering almost 7,000 stations over a total route length of more than 63,327 kilometers. Every year, around 4 billion passenger’s journey are made by rail. Railroads transport also carries almost 60 percent of India's cargo traffic every year.
